Who we are
Camino Federal Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative serving employees of the Montebello Unified School District, as well as select community groups.
We were chartered in 1941 as Montebello Schools Federal Credit Union to provide district employees with a low-cost alternative to banks that would be more responsive to their needs.
We began by offering basic services such as savings accounts and auto loans. Over the years, as our membership grew, we expanded our services to be sure we continued to meet our members’ needs.
In 2005, we changed our name to Camino Federal Credit Union (learn more). Because of our name, many people who were eligible for membership did not join because they assumed only district employees could belong to our credit union. Camino Federal Credit Union is a more inclusive name, and also honors our geographic history; El Camino Real, the route used by California’s settlers, runs through Montebello.
Our philosophy
A credit union’s operating philosophy is different from a bank’s. Banks are closely held corporations that exist to make money for their stockholders. Credit unions, on the other hand, are financial cooperatives, owned entirely by their members. Our goal is not to create profit but to provide the best possible financial services at the lowest possible costs.
After paying our operating expenses, we return our "profit" to the members in the form of lower loan rates and higher savings yields. We are committed to providing exceptional service as well, paying personal attention to your needs and making sure that you always receive the greatest value when doing business with us.
One of the most important things about Camino Federal Credit Union is that we are part of the community. We are owned by people who live, work, worship and attend school with you. We are your friends and neighbors, and we share your goal of improving the quality of life for all.
Commitment to educational community
We have been a partner of the Montebello Unified School District since our founding. Our scholarship and employee recognition awards are the latest steps in strengthening our ties with the educational community, and we anticipate more such programs in the future. We are proud of the excellent reputation earned by the MUSD and look forward to continuing our long and rewarding relationship.
