2006 MUSD Educator Award Winners
Congratulations to the winners of the first annual employee recognition awards for Montebello Unified Schools District employees, sponsored by Camino Federal Credit Union in cooperation with the Montebello Council PTA. Each was nominated by peers in recognition of outstanding contributions to the district, exceptional work performance, community involvement, and were recognized with plaques and $500 each. We appreciate the Montebello Council PTA for their help with the selection process.
2006 Administrator of the Year Kathy B. Brendzal Bell Gardens Adult School Principal
Kathy has served as Legislative Chair for CCAE and ACSA, keeping colleagues current on important issues, she was instrumental in establishing the MTA’s Adult Education Director position, has had tremendous success in securing federal and state grants for MUSD programs, and in helping develop a variety of continuing education classes for her school, including Citizenship classes and a Family Literacy Program.
2006 Educator of the Year Sterling Schubert Schurr High School
Sterling served as chairperson for a major accreditation project, making presentations to faculty and parent groups. He also sponsored a Hiking Club to introduce students to the outdoors and real snow, helped host a group of teachers from Lithuania, and is well-liked by students and staff for his sense of humor and caring attitude.
2006 Classified Employee of the Year Robert Moya Computer Repair Technician
Robert helped successfully implement a paperless work order system for all 28 district schools three months ahead of schedule, oversees maintenance and repair of the district’s 3,500 computers with a positive and friendly attitude, is currently spearheading the implementation of an electronic inventory system, and is always looking for ways to improve departmental procedures.
