FAQ about our name change

On this page, we answer your questions about our name change. If we haven’t addressed your specific question, please contact us at info@caminofcu.org.

Why did Montebello Schools Federal Credit Union change its name?

Many of our friends and neighbors in the community who were eligible to join didn’t do so because they thought membership was only for employees of the Montebello Unified School District. Our new name should eliminate that misperception.

Has the credit union ended its relationship with the Montebello Unified School District?

Not at all. The MUSD is still the core of our membership. In fact, we have introduced several new awards programs to strengthen our long-time ties to the district. We present three awards of $500 each to the MUSD Administrator, Teacher and Classified Employee of the year.

In addition, we award $500 scholarships to an outstanding student at each district high school.

How did the name change affect the credit union?

More people will now learn they are eligible to join. This leads to increased growth, which in turn helps us strengthen our already solid financial position and allows us to serve you better.

Why “Camino” Federal Credit Union?

Two reasons. First, Camino honors local history. Montebello is along “El Camino Real,” the road used by Spanish settlers. Second, “Camino” means road, and our goal is to show members the way to financial success.

Did fees, rates and other costs change?

All fees and charges remained the same. Any changes in the future will be the result of normal reaction to member needs and market conditions.

Was there a change in ownership?

No. The credit union remains a cooperative, owned entirely by its members. We have not been sold to another entity, or merged with another financial institution.

Was there any staff changes?

No. All staff, management, board, and credit and supervisory committee members remained the same. Any changes since then have been the result of normal turnover.

How about the credit union’s contact information?

Our telephone numbers, fax numbers, and address remain the same. Our website changed to www.caminofcu.org, and our e-mail address to info@caminofcu.org.

Are my accounts still federally insured?

Yes. Your savings are still insured to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration, the U.S. government agency that oversees credit unions. Plus, the NCUA separately insures retirement funds to $250,000.

What new services were introduced?

To name just one, you now have nationwide access to your Camino Federal Credit Union account. We joined a network of more than 2,600 credit union branches nationwide that can process transactions for each other’s members. For a list of locations, go to
CU Service Centers location‡ or call 888/ CUSWIRL.
