Los Angeles has never claimed to be an inexpensive city, but some of us are trying to stick to a budget. How do you continue to experience and appreciate all of the great things that LA has to offer while not breaking the bank? It’s not an easy task, but we have a few options for you.

Getty Center

This hilltop museum is well-known for good reason! The building took about 13 years to complete and is said to have that James-Bond-esque feel about it. With some of the best art on display in Los Angeles and incredible panoramic views of the entire city, this is a must-see (or must-revisit!). No reservations are necessary for the Getty Center but if you want to visit the incredibly beautiful Getty Villa, be sure to get tickets online first.

Venice Beach

If you’re looking for a day of people-watching and day in the sun – Venice beach is your answer. There are many events that take place in and around Venice and a lot of hidden spots to explore. The canal neighborhood is one of the most unique parts of Los Angeles and a great spot for a stroll if you’re not up for the boardwalk. If you want to see something spectacular (and free) visit the Mosaic Tile House. The house is a live-in piece of art that you have to see to truly appreciate.

The Original Farmers Market

This LA staple was founded in 1934 and continues to be one of the most popular hot spots in Los Angeles. The market is home to all different kinds of vendors including grocery, restaurants, and local shops. This is one of the best places to spend your day in Los Angeles because it has so much to offer, and admission is free! Can’t beat that. Whether you want to take in one of their events or just go for a day of strolling around, this one is high up on our list of to-dos.

Grand Central Market

This historic market not only has some incredibly delicious food vendors, it also has some great (and free) events for your enjoyment! Join a game night or take in some soulful jazz right in the market and save your money for a dumpling or a ramen bowl. Transportation is easy and the market even offers a free shuttle to or from downtown LA. Some of the best tacos live at this market, but don’t take our word for it.

The Broad

Los Angeles’ newest contemporary museum is getting much-deserved attention as it showcases amazing work by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jasper Johns – just to name a few. Admission is free with a reservation, but the museum sells out quickly! Reservations are available online a month in advance, starting the first of each month. There is a standby line as well but to secure entrance to the Broad, we suggest getting those tickets in advance. The museum is near Union Station for those who are using public transport to get into Downtown LA.
