What to Do With Your Money During Uncertain Times

Getting a great deal always feels good.  But what if you could figure out a way to get a great deal on a consistent basis?  If you shop smart for your groceries, you can save a lot of money on everyday items, which can really add up over time.

Fresh Produce

Produce at ethnic grocery stores is often priced less than what you would pay otherwise.  Especially items like avocados, mangoes, chilies, limes and onions.  Additionally, if you focus on purchasing only in-season produce, it is often priced lower because it doesn’t have to be shipped from a long ways away.

Milk

Chain pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens don’t offer a wide variety of milk, but it is usually priced lower than grocery stores.  Although you might not get your exact brand, you can save quite a bit of money if that doesn’t bother you.

Cereal

The great thing about cereal is that it has a long shelf life.  The other great thing is that there are usually a number of coupons and sales that allow you to get it at a steep discount.  When you come across a coupon or sale, stock up.  It will keep your pantry full and will save you money as well.

Sparkling Water or Soda

If you regularly drink sparkling water or soda, consider investing in a Sodastream.  Starting at $80, it can save you a lot of money over time.  Depending on how much soda or sparkling water you drink, the investment can very quickly be recouped with the money you save.

Bread and Baked Goods

If you purchase from a bakery right before it closes, the bread and baked goods are often steeply discounted, sometimes up to 50%.  Most bakeries throw out a lot of their extras at the end of the night, so it’s a good time to pick up what you need at a considerable discount.

There are a lot of ways to save money at the grocery store and taking a few minutes to be strategic about when and where you shop can save you a lot of money over time.
