What Is a Digital Wallet?
A digital wallet, also known as an e-wallet, is a service that allows you to pay for items through your mobile device. Most digital wallets are also able to store many items that a traditional wallet would hold, such as a driver’s license, gift cards, tickets for entertainment events, and transportation passes. Digital wallets are not only more efficient but also usually considered more secure compared to a traditional wallet.
How Does the Digital Wallet Work?
Digital wallet software is traditionally housed through a mobile app on a smartphone. Because the wallet is housed on a smartphone it makes it easier when you are out and about. Most people carry their phones on them at all times compared to a wallet that some people may forget at home. In order to get your Camino card on the digital wallet, you will need to add your Camino card information to your phone wallet. If you have an old phone that does not already come with the wallet app then you will need to download the wallet app in order to use it.
To use the digital wallet, the store must have a point of sale (POS) system terminal that is compatible with your digital wallet in order to use it. Usually, you will know if it is compatible if the system has a contactless symbol displayed at checkout. Once you find a POS system that is compatible with your digital wallet app, you can use this service by simply holding your smartphone up near the sales terminal and the information will be transferred without having to swipe your card or type in any credit card information to pay. At some retail locations or ATMs, you may be able to pay directly through your app without the system. Some ATMs allow members to withdraw cash from the app when in close proximity to a compatible ATM.
