Step-By-Step Guide to Saving Money This Weekend

posted in: Blog, Financial Tips 0

So, you’ve had a long and stressful week and it’s finally Friday! The first thing you do is call up your friends to go grab drinks at happy hour or go watch the latest horror flick in theaters. As your weekend continues, the dollars are pouring out of your wallet and you’re left feeling remorse on Sunday night!

At Camino Federal Credit Union, we’re here to tell you that the weekends don’t have to hinder your finances. Spend a little and save a lot with this step-by-step guide for your weekend wallet-free festivities.

Friday

Whether you go out for drinks with friends or take your family to the movies, opt in for something more budget conscious! Instead of going straight to happy hour or the movies on Friday, plan the night in with your friends or loved ones. Create some delicious food and cocktails with items you already have in your kitchen and you’re good to go. By letting your friends or family know you’re planning a money-free weekend, they might want to join you. However, if they’re adamant about going out, be the designated driver! Uber expenses start to add up and you’ll save a pretty penny on the hefty cost of drinks.

Saturday

Now that you’ve made it to Saturday morning and your wallet is already starting to feel the positive effects from Friday, it’s time to keep this streak going! Think of something you normally do on a Saturday, whether it’s that trip to the mall or a new yoga studio. Now think of alternatives to those activities or hobbies. For the trip to the mall, save yourself the agony of money-less window-shopping and take a walk through a park or on the beach instead. The new yoga studio is most likely expensive; swap it out with an in-home yoga workout from a video online! This can be said for most other workouts, as well. Once Saturday night hits, you already know the drill from Friday on saving your money.

Sunday

You’ve almost made it through the weekend, spending free. If Sunday brunch is your go-to Sunday activity, have no fear. Set up brunch at home! All you need are some eggs, toast, mimosas, and your friends and you are having brunch just like you would at a nice restaurant. If the weather’s nice, set up brunch in your backyard or park outdoors!

That’s it! You just spent a weekend without emptying your pockets. If you planned out your weekend and don’t think you’d be able to spend it money-free, that’s okay too. Set up a weekend budget or allow yourself only one or two expenses. By saving money over the weekend, this will help your financial goals in the long run.
